EN 10216-5 1.4404 stainless steel pipe is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel seamless pipe (corresponding to 316L), with chromium (16.5-18.5%), nickel (10-13%), and molybdenum (2-2.5%) as the core components, with a tensile strength of ≥485 MPa and an elongation of ≥40%. Its low-carbon design (C≤0.03%) significantly reduces the risk of welding sensitization, and the molybdenum element enhances the corrosion resistance of chlorides (such as seawater and acidic media), and has a wide temperature range (-196°C to 400°C).

 

This pipe is widely used in the fields of chemical industry, energy and marine engineering. Typical scenarios include corrosive fluid transportation (hydrochloric acid, seawater cooling), flue gas desulfurization system pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) cryogenic equipment. During manufacturing, it is solution annealed and surface passivated to optimize corrosion resistance. It is necessary to avoid being in the sensitization temperature range of 450-850°C for a long time. It is the preferred material for balancing corrosion resistance, processability and economy.

1. Chemical and petrochemical industry


Corrosive media transportation: Pipeline systems for hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, and chloride ion solutions (such as seawater coolants). Molybdenum (2-2.5%) effectively resists pitting and crevice corrosion.

Reactor lining and heat exchange tubes: In acidic or alkaline reaction environments, they can withstand high temperatures (≤400°C) and pressure fluctuations to ensure equipment sealing.

 

2. Marine and ship engineering


Seawater desalination equipment: High-pressure reverse osmosis (RO) pipelines resist corrosion from high-salinity seawater and extend equipment life.

Ship ballast water system: Prevents biological attachment and salt spray erosion, meeting IMO anti-pollution standards.
